“Tend to the social and the individual will flourish.”

—Jonathan Rutherford, 2008

The Social Epidemiology in Action Lab is led by Dr. Cheryl Currie, Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada. Our team examines the ways in which social experiences, both positive and negative, can get under the skin to shape health, behaviour, and stress biology with a special focus on substance abuse.

We engage a wide variety of methodologies including randomized trial designs, observational studies, systematic reviews, qualitative inquiries, and big data analyses.

Our work is framed by a participatory action research perspective. We actively partner with community collaborators and organizations, not only to inform our research questions and direction, but to engage in research with us as empowered partners.
